Pain In The Joint ? Health & Fitness

You will feel how devastating arthritis can be if you yourself is suffering from it or somebody you know. My mother?s hands were entwined and distorted due to arthritis and years of use. She sewed, painted, and fashioned all sorts of crafts all her life, even though it was difficult and painful in her later years.

Arthritis is the swelling of the joints accompanied with a throbbing sensation. Numerous kinds of arthritis are as follows, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, infectious arthritis and juvenile arthritis. The two that we will be discussing here are rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis, branded as the crippling arthritis, begins with the swelling and aching in the joints, weariness, anemia, weight loss and even fever. It is distinguished by the swelling of any joint in the body with confined pain, malformation, rigidity, restricted mobilization and fever. In rheumatoid arthritis, the hardening of the joint happens upon getting up from bed and may prolong for an hour or more and puffing of the affected finger or wrist may occur. Rheumatoid arthritis will generally start with soreness and hardness of a single joint of a finger, hind, wrist or knee, involving all joints surrounded by a synovia-secreting membrane. An ailment of the body?s immune system, this type of arthritis mistakenly identifies something as foreign and attacks it therefore makes the joints swell. One of the differences between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis is the sound the joints make. In rheumatoid arthritis, the sounds on the joints are like scrunching cellophane. Osteoarthritis tends to make more of popping or clicking sound.

Osteoarthritis involves individual joints causing stiffness and pain during joint movements and usually happens slowly. In the early stages of osteoarthritis, there is usually no inflammation. Then again, the inflammation, swelling of the joint, and muscle contractures can take place in its final phase, and includes the wear and tear of the cartilage that coats the end of the bones. This arthritis goes with age, through time as the body becomes old and weak, it sets in. My mother had this type of arthritis. It started in her index finger until it seized her whole hand.

An overwhelming estimation of 43 million adults have some form of arthritis, and it is projected that by the year 2030 that number will soar to 63 million Americans, perhaps if you are reading this, you are one of them.

If you suspect you have arthritis, consult your health care provider to determine what method of treatment will work for you. To help control arthritis, diet and exercise are matters of important considerations. In addition, you can discuss with your health care provider options to pain control, such as analgesic gels or gel packs, moist heat therapy, (the paraffin heat systems feel wonderful ? I know I have tried them myself), T.E.N.S units (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) or other nerve stimulation systems, and back braces in the case of osteoarthritis, to help relieve and control pain.
