The internet is an amazing piece of modern technology that allows us to communicate with all sorts of people all over the world. This is fantastic, but there are pitfalls!

I Use the internet daily and have my business on-line, I find it incredible and I love the ability to reach people world-wide. Unfortunately there is a downside and it can be very negative.

When we are talking face to face with someone, it is obviously easy to see if our words are understood, if the other person looks confused we have the opportunity to work through it and express correctly, but with written words this is obviously very different, we don?t know how the reader is responding to our words and they may dismiss them, we run the risk of losing friendships and business through choice of words. This is very difficult as we can?t take responsibility for how people will interpret our words, but we can take extra care to express ourselves as well and as carefully as possible, and make sure the other person has easy ways to contact us.

I have recently had a very bad experience here which is what prompted me to think hard about the subject and write this article.

I don?t usually get involved with forums but on this occasion it was the only way I could see to reach someone whom I needed a response from. Unfortunately I became wide open for someone to attack me and it got ugly!

When we comment in forums or on blog?s anyone and everyone has the right to comment back. As we are not face to face, people tend to immediately speak their mind without thought or care for the other person. You may not even want to speak with this person and it is most likely that you would not speak with them in the real world, but by entering the forum you are vulnerable to this.

Some forums are wonderful and can be very helpful if we want to learn about something, but in my experience there always comes a time where people start to attack just because they feel like it!

A person may be in a particularly nasty mood that day (or maybe just nasty) and express it through their activity in the forum, they forget that they are talking to real people and do not think that it may hurt them. So be very wary if you choose to partake in forums and blog comments.

In my case the person who decided to communicate with me was not a nice person and it caused me a lot of anguish. I would suggest if you start to experience this, extract your self from the forum and that person. There have been cases where people have sought out ways to find people and make their lives a misery. Be wary!

If Someone Starts To Attack You.

If someone starts having a go at you, do not respond no matter how much you want to, do not try to defend your self or be understood. I know this is easier said than done and this was my experience, but they are not interested in you or your problem, they are not listening and they don?t care. They have no clue who you are and you don?t know them! Don?t allow it to escalate you will be the only one who becomes upset, they are having fun, don?t allow it! You would not allow this to happen in a bar or wherever, you would not stay and allow someone to continue to belittle you and put you down for their entertainment, so don?t let them do it here, don?t lower yourself to their standard, get out!

Online experience can be wonderful, and we can find a lot of wonderful helpful people, but just as in regular life, there is always one who will spoil it! Don?t forget that the people are real, don?t go in unguarded, we would not do this in public so be wary on the net, don?t leave yourself open, speak with care and do not communicate with someone if they make you feel uneasy!

Take care of yourself online as you would in any public place.

My experience this week was not at all nice and has left me with a very bad feeling, don?t let it happen to you. Think about people in general, they are the same on line, good and bad everywhere, be wise and take care! My Success to you, to all you deserve and desire!

They are all foreign objects that various species of exotic pets commonly ingest. These are just a few items that we see exotic animals inappropriately consume. Even everyday objects found in our homes, like carpeting, towels, and plastic bags can be easily ingested by exotic species. These objects can cause life-threatening gastrointestinal obstructions that often require surgery to resolve.

So what can exotic pet owners do? While no one can guarantee that his or her pet will always be safe from ingesting foreign objects, there are certainly some precautions pet owners can take:

• Pet-proof your animal?s enclosure. Scour the areas your pets frequent, and be sure to pick up any small, loose objects or dangling materials like string, ribbon, or wires that call out to pets to be chewed on.
• Never let your bird, small mammal (rabbit, ferret, rodent, or other species), or even your reptile, out of its cage unsupervised, even for a minute. That?s all it takes to gulp down or bite off a bit of foreign material.
• Be sure your pet?s cage or other enclosure locks securely and is escape-proof. Exotic pets are very clever and manage to get out of even seemingly secure places.
• Never leave tempting human food items or any kind of medication out within the reach of your exotic pets. Even if you think they won?t eat it, they might. It?s not worth the risk.
• Don?t assume that all pet ?toys? are safe; many of these toys are made from potentially toxic materials (like lead) or have pieces that can be bitten or broken off, swallowed, or ingested. Carefully inspect any toys you leave in your pet?s cage, and consider whether there is anything in or on them that your pet might consume inappropriately.
• Pay attention to your pet?s bedding. Several types of bedding that are labeled as ?safe,? such as corn cob or walnut shells, are actually consumed by many exotic pets and ultimately can lead to gastrointestinal obstruction. Bedding made from paper or recycled paper products is digestible if consumed and is therefore safe.
• Learn to recognize potential signs of foreign object ingestion in your pet?s particular species. For example, rabbits cannot physically vomit. Therefore, if you own a rabbit, you would not rely on vomiting as an indicator of whether your pet has ingested foreign material. And while ferrets can vomit, they often will not, showing only signs of diarrhea, even when they have swallowed something they shouldn?t have.
• Have a plan: talk to your vet before you have an actual emergency situation, so that if your exotic pet consumes foreign material and starts to act sick, you will know what to do and where to go even if it?s the middle of the night.

While we may not be able to prevent every exotic pet from inappropriately consuming all foreign materials, awareness of this problem and vigilance to prevent it can certainly save many animals lives.

Associate teams back as ICC make 2015 World Cup U-turn (Reuters)

HONG KONG (Reuters) ? The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday retained the 14-team format for the 2015 World Cup, succumbing to pressure from non-test playing nations who will have four representations in the elite 50-overs tournament.

"The ICC Executive Board opted to retain the 14-team format that was used at the highly successful and universally acclaimed ICC Cricket World Cup 2011," the governing body said in a statement.

The ICC had decided in April to restrict the 2015 tournament, to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, to 10 full members.

The move triggered protests from associate teams, most notably Ireland, who stunned England in a Bangalore run-feast to contribute much of the early drama that brought alive the 2011 World Cup hosted jointly by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The growing resentment prompted ICC President Sharad Pawar to ask the executive board to review the decision and the U-turn was welcomed by Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom.

"The initial reaction is probably just one of relief to be honest with you, relief that we now have the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup and relief that we can now devote our energy to actually trying to qualify for it," Deutrom told Reuters.

"From the moment the decision was announced, a significant portion of the game's stakeholders said they felt the decision was completely wrong. There was such a massive weight of opinion, it would have been frankly a surprise if it hadn't been changed.

"That doesn't necessarily lessen the kudos that should go to the board for actually reversing the decision... I suppose it's a moment where it (the ICC) is not necessarily embracing its principles but re-embracing its principles."

'RIGHT DECISION'

Ireland all-rounder Kevin O'Brien, who scored the fastest ever World Cup century to propel his team to the stunning three-wicket win over England in March, was also pleased with the announcement.

"I think it's the right decision from ICC, not just for Ireland, but all the other 95 countries who aspire to play in World Cups," he said in a statement.

"There's no doubt that it will help spread the game even further, and that's got to be good for the future of the sport."

The decision should also inspire teams like Ireland to step up their game and show they belong at the highest level events, the country's coach and former West Indies international Phil Simmons said.

"We've got to show the ICC and the Full Members that we can perform in the final stages. That means reaching semi-finals and finals, not just the occasional shock," he said in a statement.

The 10-team format, however, will be back when England host the 2019 World Cup.

"...the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 would be a 10-team event with the top eight in the ICC rankings earning their qualification automatically with the remaining two places being decided by a qualification competition," the ICC said.

World Twenty20 events in 2012 (Sri Lanka) and 2014 (Bangladesh) will feature 12 teams.

Sony faces jittery shareholders after cyberattack (AP)

TOKYO ? Sony Corp. Chief Executive Howard Stringer credited "very loyal" PlayStation Network gamers for flocking back to the service in big numbers, as he sought Thursday to reassure shareholders following a series of embarrassing hacker attacks.

"Our brand perception, you'll be happy to know, is clearly improving again," he told a less-than-happy crowd.

Executives faced harsh questioning from individual shareholders, who expressed frustration and anger over the hack. One man even asked for Stringer to step down. Though his suggestion generated scattered applause, it ultimately went nowhere.

Sony's stock price has fallen 30 percent this year, compared with a roughly 6 percent decline in the benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average.

The Tokyo-based company estimates the hacks will cost 14 billion yen ($173 million) in increased customer support costs, freebie packages to welcome back customers, legal fees, lower sales and measures to strengthen security.

Stringer said he believes Sony was attacked because it tried to protect its intellectual property, lending credence to widespread speculation that the moves were meant to punish the company for suing hackers like George Hotz. Known as "Geohot," Hotz broke into the PlayStation 3 operating system and posted the steps online.

"These are our corporate assets, and there are those who don't want us to protect them," Stringer said.

Executives reiterated that the attacks have not derailed Sony's core strategy of more deeply connecting its hardware, content and services.

"My foremost responsibility to the board and all of you is to further advance the transformation process, firmly establish Sony's position as a global product, content and service leader in the networked digital era and ensure our continued development and growth," Stringer said.

Sony is forecasting a return to profit for this fiscal year after logging three straight years of red ink. Along with the data breaches, the company has been battling production delays and sales losses after supplier factories were damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

It expects an 80 billion yen ($989 million) profit for the current fiscal year.

In a statement later Tuesday, Sony released executive compensation figures for the last fiscal year through March 31. Stringer received 345 million yen ($4.3 million), along with stock options worth 518 million yen.

Transport for London (TfL) has said it paid 379 people more than £100,000 in the past financial year.

TfL said this included 196 of its staff, 68 from maintenance firm Tube Lines and 31 Crossrail employees and 84 people who received severance pay.

Mr Crow said: "We will take no lectures on pay restraint and job cuts while the top layers of TfL are so clearly awash with cash.

"It is RMT members who are out there day in and day out delivering the success for the company and we expect them to have both the resources and the rewards that they deserve for transporting growing number of people around this City as the clock ticks down towards the London Olympics."

The state's new law requires women seeking abortions to first participate in one free counseling session at a pregnancy help center, defined as an organization that does not offer abortion referrals but works "to educate, counsel and otherwise assist women (to keep) their relationship with their unborn children." The centers would determine whether a woman is being pressured to have an abortion, and provide information to help her give birth and keep a child.

The law also establishes the nation's longest waiting period at three days by prohibiting an abortion from being performed until 72 hours after a woman meets with an abortion clinic doctor. The doctor ultimately would determine whether she is being coerced.

Supporters say the law was necessary because many women are pressured to seek abortions by husbands, boyfriends or relatives. Alpha Center founder Leslee Unruh said about half the women who visit her facility face such pressure.

But abortion rights supporters say no other state has such stringent counseling requirements and the law encourages coercion against abortion and amounts to yet another obstacle to obtaining a legal abortion.

"Of course, we feel giving her child life is a better experience than having an abortion," said Unruh, who had an abortion for medical reasons more than three decades ago but since founding the Alpha Center in 1984 has become one of South Dakota's leading anti-abortion campaigners.

Abortion-rights supporters filed a federal lawsuit in late May to block the new law from taking effect July 1, claiming it interferes with the legal right to abortion established in the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. A hearing is scheduled Monday in Sioux Falls on a request to suspend the law while it's being challenged.

Care Net Pregnancy Resource Center, located about 400 miles west in Rapid City, and Bella Pregnancy Resource Center in Spearfish, are the state's only other registered facilities, though state officials expect more will sign up after the law takes effect. All three pregnancy centers are private, nonprofit organizations. Unruh said Alpha Center is reliant on private donations and, according to federal tax records, was armed in recent years with an annual budget ranging between $700,000 and $1 million.

Critics say the new law will force mostly low-income women to make long, costly journeys to receive required counseling. Advocates say that's folly because the Sioux Falls and Rapid City centers are located in the state's two most populated cities.

Unruh says she's ready to take her center's services on the road if necessary, armed with Alpha Center's "Fleet for Little Feet" ? a motor home that's been converted into a mobile medical and counseling operation.

Elizabeth Nash of the Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive-health research organization that supports abortion rights, said the law "really makes a mockery of informed consent."

Women who get counseling under the law will only be getting part of the story, said Nash, a public policy associate.

"It'll all be designed to steer her in one direction, which is to continue her pregnancy," Nash said.

Alpha Center is South Dakota's best-known crisis pregnancy center, mostly because of Unruh, who said she changed her position on the issue after her young son picked up a doll showing a three-month-old fetus at a Right to Life booth and said, "baby." Since then, she has taken prominent roles in every recent attempt to ban or restrict abortion in South Dakota.

Unruh said Alpha Center counselors don't pressure women to avoid abortion. She said they simply give women information about fetal development, offer an ultrasound and provide information about medical, financial and other services that can help them keep their babies or give them up for adoption,.

"It's not like we as counselors are saying: `She still wants an abortion so now I have to talk her out of it.' It's really her decision," Unruh said.

Kathi Di Nicola of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, which operates South Dakota's only abortion clinic in Sioux Falls, disagrees with Unruh.

"The stated mission of a crisis pregnancy center is to dissuade a woman from seeking abortion care," Di Nicola said.

The new law provides little detailed guidance on how counseling sessions would be conducted. The Alpha Center declined a request by The Associated Press to interview counselors or see guidelines for counseling sessions, citing its intention to join the legal defense of the counseling law.

But during a facility tour, Unruh described staff procedures. In a room where ultrasounds are done, posters around the examination table show paintings of fetuses and describe what a fetus can do at various stages of development.

Unruh said a counseling session mostly deals with finding solutions to problems faced by pregnant women. A counselor can refer women to services that help them find or keep jobs, get back into school or get free medical care, she said. Women also can talk to others who've had abortions.

A woman who chooses to give birth can visit the center's Baby Closet to get diapers, baby clothing and other items ? a privilege earned by going to school, getting a job, performing community service or meeting other goals.

Alpha Center's website leaves little doubt about its mission: prevent abortions and help women give birth.

A fund-raising page tells about a woman identified only as Kari who visited Alpha Center after she had scheduled an appointment to get an abortion at the Planned Parenthood clinic.

"Every day, because of your support, we have the privilege of not only helping to save God's precious little babies, but to save their mothers as well," according to the fundraising pitch signed by Unruh.

Like Obama, Hacker had a certain political cunning, but his skills as a leader were limited to making speeches, proposing unworkable public policy programs, and engaging in political intrigues with his own bureaucracy, personified in the two television series by the nefarious Sir Humphrey Appleby.

Lulz Security made its announcement through its Twitter account, giving no reason for its decision.

A statement published on a file-sharing website said that its "planned 50-day cruise has expired".

The group leapt to prominence by carrying out attacks on companies such as Sony and Nintendo.

Broadcasters Fox and PBS, the CIA, and the United States Senate have also been cyber-attacked by the group.

As a parting shot, the group released a selection of documents apparently including confidential material taken from the Arizona police department and US telecoms giant AT&T.

"We hope, wish, even beg, that the movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on without us," the statement said.

"Please don't stop. Together, united, we can stomp down our common oppressors and imbue ourselves with the power and freedom we deserve."

The group had previously told the BBC's Newsnight programme that it wanted to target the "higher ups" who write the rules and "bring them down a few notches".

In an online Q&A, the hacker known as Whirlpool, who described himself as "captain of the Lulz Boat", said that while the group had begun hacking "for laughs" - for which the word "lulz" is cyber-slang - it evolved into "politically motivated ethical hacking".

And in an interview with the Associated Press on Friday, a LulzSec member said the group had at least five gigabytes of "government and law enforcement data" from around the world, which it planned to release in the next three weeks.

Ryan Cleary, 19, from Wickford, Essex, was arrested as part of a Scotland Yard and FBI probe into LulzSec and charged with hacking the website of the UK Serious Organised Crime Agency.
