Gallaudet football honors

Gallaudet receives two ECFC Player of the Week awards

WHITTINGHAM, Vt. ? The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)
named its players of the week for September 5 and Gallaudet
University was well represented as junior wide receiver Ryne Worsham
(Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore defensive end Adham Talaat
(Springfield, Va.) were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of
the Week, respectively. The two awards are the first from the ECFC
for Gallaudet this season. GU had four ECFC Player of the Week award
winners last season.

The pair had a hand in keeping the Bison (0-1) in the home opening
28-27 overtime loss to Otterbein University at Hotchkiss Field last
Saturday.

Worsham had a career game for Gallaudet as he hauled in seven passes
for a career-best 155 yards and two touchdowns in a thrilling 28-27
overtime loss to Otterbein at home. Worsham caught a 9-yard pass on
fourth down in overtime to give the Bison a shot to win the game. He
had game long 44-yard reception in the loss. He also scored on an
11-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter.

Talaat made a game saving block as Otterbein lined up to attempt a
game-winning 32-yard field goal with three seconds left in
regulation. The 6-foot-6 Talaat busted through the line and swatted
the kick attempt away as time expired to send the game to overtime.
In the game, Talaat made five tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 13
yards and 1.5 sacks for 10 yards lost. He also had one quarterback
hurry, as he was a constant threat in the Cardinal backfield.

Becker College freshman Kyle Gregg was named the ECFC Rookie and
Special Teams Player of the Week. He scored two touchdowns in a 30-24
loss to Fitchburg State in the Hawks? season opener. Gregg returned
this first kickoff of his collegiate career 84 yards for a touchdown.

Gallaudet will next host cross-town rival Catholic University of
America (1-0) on Friday, September 9, at 7 p.m. under the lights at
Hotchkiss Field.

ISD vs Noblesville Football Game report

Last Friday (August 26) we played the Noblesville Home School football
team for our first home game. We were supposed to be playing MSSD in
Washington D.C. on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene was
on the path that eventually affected the Washington area during the
weekend. MSSD administration decided in the best interest of everyone?s
safety to cancel the game. We were fortunate to find the substitute team
for MSSD. Noblesville lost to 2A Bowman Academy last week, 36 to 14. In
the first quarter on the first offensive drive we moved 70 yards on five
plays to score on Kyle Bingham?s one-yard plunge across the goal line. The
key play in this series was Bingham?s 46 yard run around the end. Then the
Lions responded with unanswered 28 points before the halftime. The defense
did some remarkable jobs stopping the drives. The offense sputtered most
of the time struggling to find some openings in the ground attack.
Eventually in the fourth quarter Jermaine Briggs scored twice and Austin
Phillips added a two point conversion. We suffered six turnovers. Briggs
carried 13 times for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Bingham added 75 yards
on 6 runs and one touchdown. Chace Shaffer ran 7 times for 41 yards. Our
next opponent will be Union Dugger, 1-1. They beat Riverton Parke, 30-0
last Friday. Our next game was on Friday, Sept 2nd- a report will come
soon.

ISD HS Varsity Volleyball Grabbed 7th Victory!

August 31: Our Lady Hoosiers felt so good and wanted to disprove one of
their coaches? argument that Bethesda Christian would hand them their
first loss this year. They were eager to make a new milestone in ISD
Volleyball history by going for their seventh straight victory. We hosted
Shortridge which is part of our sectional 59. We already beat Arsenal Tech
and Bethesda Christian which are part of the sectional too. Our biggest
challenge is to keep our reputation for delivering our ?awe and shock?
offense and maintaining our ?defense shield? to the volleyball community
in Indianapolis and deaf nation. At the first set, for the first time, we
kept our serving errors to a minimum of two. Also, we managed to score our
kills at least 60 percent of attacking attempts. We finished them off
quickly by 25-10. We then had the chance to sit down and witness their
actual shock and awe in the second set. Kate Fetzer and Nicole Tingler
were digging the balls nicely to our setter TraciAnn Hoglind who set the
balls perfectly mid-air to meet the hands of Jamilee Hoglind, Jenna Smith,
Giuletta Maucere, and Jasmine Jeter who were able to put them on the floor
before they could be deflected by Shortridge. It is like a Trebuchets that
delivered the legal nightmare to the residents of the castle during the
Middle Ages. We finished them 25-13. Our attacking weapon in the third set
were getting upgraded from the Middle Ages- Trebuchets to the modern
weapons- laser precise missiles where our hitters showed that they could
hit to the specific area they wanted the balls to go. That?s the ?awe and
shock? offense we worked so hard on since the first day of camp and it had
been delivered. Their scores were based on our simple errors. However we
could see that our accurate hitting that converted into points had been
improved. We grabbed our seventh victory by 25-11. Our Lady Hoosiers were
led by Jasmine Jeter who made 18 kills, Jenna Smith with 6 kills. Our
setter, TraciAnn Hoglind made 28 assists.

Deaf Sports Trivia

Q. A deaf person is trying to establish National Deaf Pro Wrestling
Federation/Deaf Wrestling Alliance (see above). Have we ever had
such a deaf wrestling federation in the past?

A. Not really but there were a few ?all-deaf? pro wrestling events
sometime during the late forties ? but not since then.
