Class Pets | Bedtime Math

Schools aren?t just for people, you know.? A lot of classrooms in schools have a resident animal as a class pet.? Whether it?s a pair of hamsters or an aquarium full of fish, the class pet is your buddy: you can talk to him when you need some entertainment, or sneak him the parts of your lunch you don?t want.? But these animals are eating, drinking and pooping machines ? who takes care of all those gerbils, guinea pigs and hermit crabs over the weekends or a long holiday break?? Let?s make sure these critters are getting enough attention.

Wee ones:?If your class at school has 2 hermit crabs and 4 mice, how many pets does your class have?

Little kids:?If your class fish, Juan and Wanda, each eat 5 of those mysterious fish-food pellets each day, how many do they eat in total when taken home for a normal 2-day weekend? ?Bonus:?If you decide Juan and Wanda look hungry and you double their servings, how much do you feed them that weekend?

Big kids:?If there are 35 week(end)s of school and your class has 23 kids, and you each take Godzilla the gerbil home for a weekend, once everyone gets a turn how many kids get a second turn? ?Bonus:?If all but 7 kids are allergic to gerbils, how many times do those 7 kids each get to take Godzilla home?
