LONDON ? A report says monks should be stripped of control over a Roman Catholic school in London where pupils were abused over several decades.
Lawyer Alex Carlile found 21 cases of abuse since 1970 at St. Benedict's College, which is run by the Ealing Abbey monastery.
Carlile wrote in Wednesday's report that the abuse had been "mostly ? but not exclusively ? as a result of the activities of the monastic community."
The school says it will implement the recommendations and apologizes "for past failures."
A former headmaster, the Rev. David Pearce, was jailed in 2009 for abusing boys at the school over a 35-year period.
The Rev. Laurence Soper, a former abbot of Ealing, is the subject of an international manhunt after jumping bail over sex assault allegations.
